Towny
Towny is a plugin that lets players create towns to claim 16x16 chunks of land. Towns protect your land from griefing. You can also make nations to form groups of towns and ally with other nations. Towny has many related plugins, which are listed below.
Related: TownyCultures, TownyResources, SiegeWar, Quarters
TownyCultures adds a new sub-layer to towns that creates a group chat independant of towns and nations. Towns of various unrelated nations can be part of the same culture and talk privately in the culture chat.
TownyResources adds daily collectable resources to your town that is inspired by games like Sid Meier's Civilization. You're able to check for 4 different levels of resources, giving you a random item for each, that you can collect daily.
SiegeWar lets towns within nations go to war with siege battles, which are essentially capture the point style. You place a flag beside the town you wish to siege, then you maintain control of the point and kill the enemy to get points.
Quarters gives towns the ability to create much more specific regions to share control of land, which is a lot more detailed than the default 16x16 bedrock to build height plots in Towny. Use flint to select regions. (unlike the other plugins, this one is not part of the official TownyAdvanced plugin ecosystem)

Economy DivinityEconomy and player based economy plugins
DivinityEconomy lets you buy and sell just about anything with a dynamically changing price based on supply and demand. What you buy and sell influences the economy of the whole server.
QuickShop-Hikari lets players create chest-shops within shop plots in their towns. You can build your own shops and players can teleport to your town and buy and sell items. You can even make shops in other towns with an embassy.
Player Auctions is a standard player auction plugin so players can buy and sell specific items to and from anywhere in the world through the GUI.
AxTrade gives players the ability to invite each other to a secure trade interface similar to games like Diablo II and Runescape. You wont need to worry about trusting people and trading by throwing items on the ground and sending money with /pay. You can even exchange xp.
Rock Paper Scissors is exactly what it sounds like, and more. You can play rock paper scissors with people and the winner keeps the money you put in.
Lottery will randomly pick a ticket from the pot as the winner every hour. The winner receives all the money that players used to buy tickets, plus the default win amount.
